Mozilla Festival 2016

On Saturday October 29th 2016 The Good Home returns to the Mozilla Festival for a second year in a row.

Expect discussions and a rolling exhibition of product ideas for the future of home living along the following theme:

Anybody Home?

The social, political and economic environment for living in the UK has changed dramatically for many over the year. The #brexit vote, conflict across Europe and a US election taking place a few days after the festival make this the perfect opportunity to sit down with a cup of tea, in the format of a traditional ‘salon’ (or the living room) to talk, debate and create a snapshot of the times.

11:15am-12:15pm Guest Conversation: Responsible IoT for Consumer Rights Organisations by ThingsCon

The ThingsCon community fosters the creation of a human-centric and responsible Internet of Things. We want to support consumer rights organizations like EFF and Consumer Reports in this area. In this hands-on workshop we will draft materials that can help these types of organizations navigate the challenges surrounding IoT.

12:30-13:30pm Flag-o-ra-ma

Build flags that are a mashup of where attendees come from, showing that ‘home’, place of birth and origins aren’t the same thing. Open to people of all ages.

1:30pm-2pm Lunch discussion for 10 people (TBC)

2-3pm Framing migration (Speakers TBA)

Discussion with artists dealing with immigration & interiors.

3:15-4:15pm Motherland Objects

We will discuss families in a global sense and discuss objects we take with us, rituals we carry with us from the ‘mother land’ how we take home away from home. We will draw those objects and make a paper quilt out of it we exhibit at the end of the day.

5:30pm Join us for some drinks and an exhibition of the day’s work (this exhibition will be up for the whole of the Sunday as well)
